Dynamics of Bloch Electrons in Time Dependent External Electric Fields: Bounds for Interband Transitions
Using adiabatic expansions formalism, upper bounds for interband transitions for Bloch electrons in slowly varying in time electric fields are obtained. These bounds imply the validity of one-band approximation on long time scales.
متن کاملDynamical localization for Bloch electrons in Magnetic and Electric Fields
We study the time evolution of wave packets of noninteracting electrons in a twodimensional periodic system in the presence of magnetic and electric fields. The model includes consistently the coupling between Landau levels as well as the periodic and external field contributions. It is shown that the electric field produces localization along its longitudinal direction, this effect is a physic...
متن کاملDynamics of Berry-phase polarization in time-dependent electric fields
We consider the flow of polarization current J5dP/dt produced by a homogeneous electric field E(t) or by rapidly varying some other parameter in the Hamiltonian of a solid. For an initially insulating system and a collisionless time evolution, the dynamic polarization P(t) is given by a nonadiabatic version of the KingSmith–Vanderbilt geometric-phase formula. This leads to a computationally con...
متن کاملWave function for harmonically confined electrons in time-dependent electric and magnetostatic fields.
We derive via the interaction "representation" the many-body wave function for harmonically confined electrons in the presence of a magnetostatic field and perturbed by a spatially homogeneous time-dependent electric field-the Generalized Kohn Theorem (GKT) wave function. In the absence of the harmonic confinement - the uniform electron gas - the GKT wave function reduces to the Kohn Theorem wa...
متن کاملSpectral moment sum rules for strongly correlated electrons in time-dependent electric fields
We derive exact operator average expressions for the first two spectral moments of nonequilibrium Green’s functions for the Falicov-Kimball model and the Hubbard model in the presence of a spatially uniform, time-dependent electric field. The moments are similar to the well-known moments in equilibrium, but we extend those results to systems in arbitrary time-dependent electric fields. Moment s...
